Police arrest three with N129.5bn fake currencies in Kano

Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have arrested three suspects in possession of N129.5 billion in counterfeit currencies.

Salman Garba Dogo, the State Commissioner of Police, made known the major crackdown while parading the suspects alongside others who were arrested in connection with other crimes at the Bompai headquarters on Tuesday.

Dogo, who was represented by SP Abdullahi Haruna, the state Police Public Relations Officer, said the counterfeit currencies were in different denominations.

They comprise $3,366,000; CFA51,970,000, and N1,443,000.

According to him, “we arrested three suspects and recovered in counterfeit currencies equivalent to a total sum of N129.5 billion.

“They were $3,366,000; CFA 51,970,000 and N1,443,000.

“We had earlier arrested some suspects in connection with similar activities of counterfeit currencies. We will not condone this,” Dogo said.

Fatal football

In a separate incident, the Police Commissioner also confirmed that no fewer than two persons lost their lives in connection with a rivalry clash that ensued in Rimi, Kofar Mata and Yakasai after a football match leading to reprisal attacks in the state.

Dogo said they conducted an on-the-spot assessment and deployed officers to the scene to restore normalcy in the area.

According to him, an investigation is currently ongoing to arrest the suspects responsible for the clash.

Meanwhile, the command said it had arrested a total of 62 suspects for major crimes within two weeks with several recoveries.
