Bandits kidnap Federal University students in Zamfara

Bandits reportedly kidnapped an unverified number of students of the Federal University of Gusau, Zamfara State, in the early hours of Friday (today).

The bandits, who were in large numbers, reportedly stormed the residences of students who were off-campus in the village. Most of the students that were abducted were female.

Reports said the bandits invaded the community at about 4:00 a.m. on Friday, where they attacked three students’ hostels.

A source said, “Many of the kidnapped students were females, while other students were able to escape to the bush”.

The source, who is an indigene of Sabon Gida, said the bandits only abducted the university students but did not abduct any residents of the village.

He said, “When they arrived in the village, they went straight to the students [off campuses] and started shooting sporadically”.

“They later broke into the campuses and brought a number of students who are mostly females”.

Both the university authority and the state police command have yet to comment on the incident.
