Police nab 107 for robbery, kidnapping, others in Kano

Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have arrested 107 suspects involved in various crimes, including armed robbery, kidnapping, illicit drug trafficking, thuggery, motorcycle and motor vehicle theft and other social vices within the last month.

Ibrahim Bakori, State Commissioner of Police, disclosed this while giving an update on the current security situation in the state at the command’s headquarters, Bompai, on Monday.

He said the suspects who were apprehended within the last month included eight armed robbers, eight kidnappers, three human trafficking suspects and 14 suspected drug dealers.

Others, he said, were two suspected motor vehicle thieves, six motorcycle thieves, five suspected thieves and 61 suspected thugs (Yan-Daba) while one human trafficking victim was rescued.

According to him, the command also recovered one AK-47 rifle, seven fabricated guns, 11 live ammunition, seven motor vehicles, eight motorcycles and seven cows.

Also recovered were 102 cutlasses, 74 knives, 111 parcels, 458 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, 211 pieces of suspected rubber solutions, 257 bottles of suspected ‘Suck and Die’ and 44 dealers of Kampala textile materials

“From the launch of ‘Operation Kukan Kura’ on 1st July, 2025, to date, a total of 473 weapons and a large quantity of illicit drugs have been recovered,” the commissioner said.

“In line with the directives of the IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on community-centred policing, the Kano State Police Command intensified its efforts through the implementation of ‘Operation Kukan Kura’, which incorporates both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches. “This initiative is designed to foster active public participation in policing and a collaborative approach to addressing criminal activities,” he added.

The CP commended officers for their selfless service, assuring all that the command will continue to adapt and innovate its approaches to stay ahead of criminal elements with a view to maintaining peace and stability in the state.
