LASG seals apartments over improper wastewater discharge
The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, has sealed some residential properties in Ikota GRA, Eti-Osa, over environmental violations.
The affected properties — EMCEL Court Phase I and Well Stock Apartments, both located on Lantana Avenue — were shut down for alleged deliberate and improper discharge of wastewater into public drains and the surrounding environment.
Tokunbo Wahab, Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment, made this known in a post on the social media platform X.
According to Wahab, the infractions not only caused public nuisance and environmental pollution but also posed significant risks to human health, hence, the enforcement.
“Lagosians are enjoined to embrace proper wastewater management and hygiene practices to enhance public health and environmental sustainability,” Wahab stated.
In a related development, the Commissioner also revealed that enforcement teams had been deployed to 2nd Rainbow Junction, inward Mile 2, to remove illegal street traders.
The traders were said to be obstructing traffic and pedestrian movements, and contributing to environmental degradation.
“Our enforcement team is currently dislodging illegal street traders constituting a nuisance at 2nd Rainbow Junction, inward Mile 2. These activities obstruct traffic flow, endanger pedestrians, and litter the environment. We remain committed to keeping our roads safe, clean, and free of all forms of environmental infractions,” Wahab said.
The state government reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on environmental violations and emphasised that defaulters would face strict penalties, including property closure and legal action.
