Three students hospitalised as inferno guts Gombe varsity female hostel
No less than three students have been hospitalised with different degrees of injuries when a female hostel annex of Gombe State University was gutted by fire on Thursday night.
The flames is suspected to have been triggered by a cooking gas explosion.
Assistant Superintendent of Fire, Bashir Muazu, Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service, Gombe Command, who confirmed the incident, described it as “unfortunate”.
According to him, it was caused by LPG, cooking gas, adding that based on preliminary investigation, it was caused by unattended cooking by a student.
He stated, “While no fatalities were recorded, three students were taken to the hospital.”
According to a source, the fire could have been put out quickly if the school’s fire service was functioning well.
Hadu Naphtali, Gombe State University’s Public Relations Officer, could not be reached to comment on the incident.
