MTN blames multiple fibre cuts over network glitch

The MTN telecommunications network is currently down as subscribers of the service find it impossible to make or receive calls, while others are not able to make use of their internet through the network.

This is a result of its network glitch.

Responding to this on Wednesday night, MTN disclosed the cause of the network problem as a “major service outage caused by multiple fibre cuts, affecting voice and data services.”

MTN added that its engineers are working hard to resolve the issue, with services gradually being restored in some areas.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and ask for your patience and understanding as the team works to restore full service as soon as possible,” the network provider stated.

Meanwhile, recall that the Nigerian Communications Commission has restated its directive to telecom operators to bar telephone subscribers not linked to their National Identification Numbers on or before February 28, 2024.

Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the National Communication Commission, spoke at the NCC’s Special Day during the ongoing 45th Kaduna International Trade Fair on Wednesday.

He repeated that the February 28th deadline given to telecom operators to bar subscribers who failed to link their NIN to their SIM, stands.

“To this end, the National Communication Commission has directed all telecommunication operators to bar phone lines of subscribers whose lines are not linked to their NINs on or before February 28, 2024,” he said.
