Blackout as Nigeria’s national grid collapses for the tenth time in 2024

Nigeria has again been plunged into darkness as the national grid recorded another collapse on Tuesday.

According to the National Nigeria Grid’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the incident happened around 2:09 p.m.

Recall that the nation’s power grid witnessed a series of collapses last month.

In 2024 alone, the national grid has collapsed at least eight times.

Recently, nine northern states were plunged into darkness for over a week as the national grid collapsed again.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has also informed its customers “of a general system collapse that occurred at 13:52 hours today, 5th November 2024. This has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across the EEDC network.”

Emeka Ezeh, Head, Corporate Communications (EEDC) signed the notice Tuesday afternoon.

According to him, “Consequently, due to this development, all our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide services to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Imo States.

“We are on standby awaiting detailed information about the collapse and restoration of supply from the National Control Centre (NCC), Osogbo.”
