
Bye-election: 333 thugs arraigned for electoral offences in Kano
The Kano State Police Command has arraigned 333 suspected political thugs who were apprehended during last Saturday’s by-election for various electoral offences.
Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the Commissioner of Police, made this known on Monday while addressing journalists on the security operations in Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa constituencies.
According to him, the suspects, armed with cutlasses, pump-action rifles, locally made pistols, and other weapons, attempted to disrupt the election but were intercepted by joint security operatives.
Bakori confirmed that the suspects were charged with disorderly conduct, possession of offensive weapons, intimidation, snatching, and destruction of election materials.
He added that exhibits recovered from them included arms, cash totalling N4,048,000, and other dangerous objects.
The suspects were arraigned before the Magistrate Courts in Nomansland and Gyadi-Gyadi, Kano, for prosecution.
