Edo Governorship Election: INEC declares APC’s Okpebholo winner
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Senator Monday Okpebholo, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), winner of Saturday’s Edo State Governorship Election.
Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, who doubles as the Returning Officer, announced Okpebholo as the winner of the election.
This is as the results from all 18 Local Government Areas of the state showed that Okpebholo won eleven LGAs to defeat the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Asue Ighodalo and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party.
Okpebholo garnered 291,667 votes to beat Ighodalo and Akpata with 247,274 and 18,737 votes, respectively.
Okpebholo will take over from the outgoing Godwin Obaseki at the Osadebe House in Edo State.
The governor-elect, Okpebholo, in his remarks after his victory, said he would continue from where the former Governor, Adams Oshiomole stopped.
