Gunmen kill two policemen on patrol in Enugu
Two unidentified gunmen have allegedly killed two police officers in Enugu State.
The hoodlums ambushed a mobile police patrol team on Wednesday night, killing the cops.
The Operation Restore Peace Enugu squad was on a routine patrol along the Udi-Ozalla Road at around 7:30 p.m. when the incident occurred.
The victims are Danjuma Joseph, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), and Inspector Abu Elamaje.
They were reportedly rushed to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) in Ituku-Ozalla for treatment, but the doctors on duty confirmed they had died.
Inspector Udeme Udomeng, another officer who sustained gunshot wounds, was treated and released.
It’s not known who killed the policemen—a different group of hoodlums or the kidnappers who have been on the loose in various sections of the state.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has referred to the state’s high rate of kidnapping as outrageous and immoral.
