Okada ban: Task Force storms Oshodi-Apapa expressway again, impounds 79 motorcycles
The Lagos State Task Force, in another surprise operation, yesterday, stormed Second Rainbow and other areas on the Oshodi-Apapa expressway in Lagos, impounding 79 commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada.
A similar operation was carried out on the same axis last week Tuesday, where 82 commercial motorcycles were impounded.
The operation, which was aimed at enforcing the state government’s ban on commercial motorcycle operators in the area, began at 11 am.
Spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Benjamin Hudenyin, said “The agency embarked on its daily routine enforcement at Berger Suya, Kirikiri road, 2nd Rainbow Bridge, Apple junction inward Festac.
“The operation was itch-free except in Berger Suya, where there was a pocket of resistance but was matched with minimal force and tactical superiority of our men. In other areas visited, the operation was conducted with the highest degree of civility and professionalism. A total number of 79 commercial motorcycles were impounded “.
But in a brazen display of defiance, some commercial motorcyclists who escaped the operation, returned to work shortly after the operatives left, resuming their operations at Mile 2, Second Rainbow and Berger Suya, utterly unfazed by the earlier crackdown.
