Ondo Assembly confirms Adelami as deputy governor
The Ondo State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed Olayide Adelami as the Deputy Governor of Ondo State.
The development came 24 hours after the governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, picked Adelami as the deputy governor-nominee and sent his name to the Assembly for screening and approval.
The Assembly confirmed the nominee after the consideration of a report by the House selection committee presided over by the Speaker, Mr. Olamide Oladiji, during the plenary session of the Assembly.
The House had earlier conducted a screening exercise for the nominee at the Assembly complex before the plenary.
Jaiyeola Benjamin, the Clerk of the House, had, during the plenary, read the letter sent to the House by Governor Aiyedatiwa for the consideration of the nominees.
After the submission of the report, Abayomi Akinruntan, the Deputy Speaker of the House, recommended the confirmation of the appointment of the nominee, affirming that Adelami had been properly screened.
Mr. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, who is the Majority Leader of the House, moved the motion for the report to be considered and the nominee to be confirmed, and the motion was seconded by Felix Afe, representing Akoko North West 2 Constituency.
Oladiji, the Speaker, who ruled for the confirmation, congratulated the Deputy Governor designate, urging him “to put in his best and pledged the house support to the executive for the people to enjoy more democracy dividends.
In his response, Adelami appreciated Governor Aiyedatiwa for nominating him, promising not to betray the confidence reposed in him.
