Contract scandal: Tinubu summons Minister Tunji-Ojo

President Bola Tinubu has summoned Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, to the Presidential Villa.

The Nation reports that the Minister is expected to meet the president on Tuesday afternoon at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, over his alleged involvement in the controversial N438 million contract scandal involving the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu.

It was reported that the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation awarded a consultancy contract to the tune of N438 million to New Planet Projects Ltd., a company that was linked to Mr. Tunji-Ojo.

In a television interview, Mr. Tunji-Ojo denied any involvement in the contract, explaining that he resigned from being a director of the company in 2019.

”I am not a signatory to the company,” he said.

“And actually, I was shocked because the company in question was a company where I was a director. About five years ago, I resigned from my directorship.”

Mr. Tunji-Ojo said he co-founded the New Planet Project with his wife 15 years ago but resigned as a director in 2019 upon winning a seat in the House of Representatives.

He, however, remained a shareholder in the company.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu suspended Mrs. Edu on Monday for allegedly diverting over N585 million to a private account.
