Former Yobe Governor Abba Ibrahim dies at 73 

The former Governor of Yobe State, Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim, is dead.

The news of his death was posted on the social handle of the Gujba Emirate Council. It was also confirmed by a source from the Emirate.

The former governor was said to have died in Medina Hospital in Saudi Arabia after illness.

He was born in October 1950.

Ibrahim was first elected as governor of the state before the military truncated the fledging democracy following the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election won by MKO Abiola. 

He governed from January 1992 to November 1993.

He emerged as governor on return to democratic rule on May 29, 1999, and was in office for two terms until May 29, 2007.

He was subsequently elected into the National Assembly as Senator for Yobe East Senatorial District from June 2007 – June 2019. 

He was reputed to be one of the greatest politicians in Yobe State.
