Jigawa gov reshuffles cabinet, reassigns three commissioners

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle affecting three commissioners in a move aimed at improving service delivery.

While briefing journalists on Monday after the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Dutse, Sagir Musa, Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, announced the development.

Although no specific reason was given for the shake-up, Musa said the changes were part of efforts to reposition the government for greater efficiency.

“The Honourable Commissioner for Land, Housing, Urban Development and Regional Planning, Hon. Muhammed Alhassan, will now head the Ministry of Water Resources,” Musa said.

He added, “Hon. Ibrahim Garba Hannun Giwa, formerly the Commissioner for Water Resources, will now take over the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development. Meanwhile, Hon. Ahmed Garba (MK), the former Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, will now oversee the Ministry of Land, Housing, Urban Development and Regional Planning.

“This cabinet reshuffle is expected to further enhance the government’s effectiveness.”

Musa said the redeployments take immediate effect from Monday, 5 May, and the affected commissioners are expected to assume their new roles no later than 19 May.

Meanwhile, the Council also received and adopted the report of the White Paper Committee set up to review the Jigawa COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (J-CARES) programme.

“The Council accepted all the recommendations made in the report and directed the committee to ensure immediate implementation.

“The committee, chaired by the state Head of Service, has four weeks to implement the recommendations and will report progress to the Council at every sitting,” he said.

Musa emphasised that “the J-CARES Programme was established to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the state’s economy and citizens.

“The review of its activities is aimed at identifying areas of improvement and ensuring effective implementation of its objectives.”
