Lagos House of Assembly swears in first female speaker, Meranda

Mojisola Meranda has been sworn in as the first female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly

Meranda took her oath of office after Mudashiru Obasa, the former Speaker, was impeached on Monday during a plenary session.

She represents the Apapa 1 state constituency in the assembly.

Meranda took her oath of office saying, “I affirm that I will be faithful as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly; that I will perform my functions honestly to the best of my ability, faithfully, and in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
