Man arraigned for assaulting ladies in Rivers nightclub

The Rivers State Police Command said the case of alleged assault on some ladies by a socialite at a popular nightclub in Port Harcourt, the state capital, has been charged to court.

Last week a video surfaced online of the moment when some ladies celebrating a birthday ceremony were allegedly assaulted at the fun spot with bodily injuries on them.

The police said already the man identified as Ihechi Maduba whom the ladies claimed assaulted them had been invited for questioning and initially detained.

A Superintendent of Police, Grace Iringe-Koko, the command’s public relations officer, made this known on Saturday.

According to Iringe-Koko, all those involved in the matter had been identified and invited to the State Command for questioning to ensure justice before the matter was charged to court.

She stated, “There is this video on social media where some ladies were assaulted at a nightclub called ‘Black Box’ here in Port Harcourt.

“They alleged that one Ikechi Maduba Christian a.k.a. Seemore assaulted them at the nightclub. And immediately, I informed the Commissioner of Police who was miffed about it.

“The CP mandated the Divisional Police Officer within the jurisdiction to swing into action and investigate the matter.

“And immediately, the man (Seemore) who allegedly assaulted these ladies was arrested and brought to the station, where he made his statement.”

Iringe-Koko, disclosed that the ladies were also invited after which the matter was charged to court.

“The Commissioner of Police later invited them (the ladies) and they came to the headquarters on June 16, 2025, where the CP interviewed both the ladies and the suspect.

“The Deputy Commissioner of Police State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department was part of the interview.

“The CP was unhappy about it. He immediately asked the State Criminal and Intelligence Department to expedite action. On June 17, the matter was charged to count.”

The police image maker said the matter was being thoroughly investigated to ensure justice was served.

She emphasised that under the watch of the CP, issues of gender-based violence and crime in the state would not be swept under the carpet.

Answering questions from newsmen at the State Police Command, one of the ladies, Tonia Okoye, insisted that she and her friends sustained injuries due to the attack on them by Maduba.

Tonia, a graduate of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State, stated tersely, “We know what is right. All we need is justice.”
