My decision to accept Tinubu’s peace pact not out of fear – Fubara

Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has said his decision to embrace the peace deal brokered by President Bola Tinubu was not borne out of fear.

Amidst the lingering face-off with Nyesom Wike, his godfather and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Fubara said the decision was taken to ensure that peace reigns in the state.

According to a statement by Boniface Onyedi, his Senior Special Assistant on Media, the governor said this during the maiden state banquet by his administration at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

Fubara said his administration would not be entangled in any dirty political war that would hinder the promising prospects of development in the state.

He said, “Every decision that we’ve taken is not borne out of fear but because we have the interest of our people and we have respect for elders.

“I’m appealing to every one of us to embrace peace. We need this peace because our intention for the state is not for our interest but that of the development of the state.”

Fubara and Wike have been at loggerheads over the political structure in Rivers State.

The face-off led to some lawmakers of the state assembly defecting to the All Progressives Congress, APC, while some commissioners resigned.

To avert the crisis from further degeneration, President Bola Tinubu had prevailed on the duo to sign a peace pact.

However, Fubara was criticized for signing the peace deal as some of the terms were allegedly not in his favour.
