NFF mourns as ex-Super Falcons goalkeeper, Aluko-Olaseni dies

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has been thrown into mourning over the death of former Super Falcons goalkeeper, Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni.

Aluko-Olaseni passed away after an eight-year battle with cancer.

In a post on the NFF official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday night, the Federation prayed for the repose of the soul of the talented goalkeeper.

“We are sad to hear of the passing of former @NGSuper Falcons goalkeeper, Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni, after an eight-year battle with cancer. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. May her gentle soul rest in peace,” the NFF wrote.

During Aluko-Olaseni’s stint as a goalkeeper for the Super Falcons, she showcased remarkable skills.

Also, she contributed her talents to teams such as the Rivers Angels and Sunshine Queens.

According to a report in 2019, cancer developed in 2017 while she was still playing for the Rivers Angels in the Nigerian Women’s Premier League.

She explained that immediately after the cancer was detected, she was asked to undergo surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, which she did.

The ailment, according to the retired keeper, forced her to leave football when she did.

Aluko-Olaseni, who was in goal for the Falcons between 2012 and 2013, said she needed about N5m for treatment in Nigeria.
