Niger flood: Two more bodies recovered

Almost a month after flood wrecked havoc in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State, two more corpses have been recovered.

The flood, which followed a torrential rainfall on May 29, killed over 200 people and displaced over 3,000 residents.

Not less than 50 houses were also destroyed by the flood.

In a statement, the Niger State Emergency Management Agency disclosed the development on Thursday.

According to Abdullahi Baba-Arah, the Director General of NSEMA, the recovered corpses were decomposed beyond recognition.

“Two more dead bodies were recovered today at the downstream of the bridge.

“Yesterday’s rains that flowed along the water channel washed away sand dunes that covered the dead bodies.

“The dead bodies were decomposed beyond recognition,” Baba-Arah said.

Yakubu Garba, Deputy Governor of Niger State, who represented Governor Mohammed Bago at an event on Tuesday disclosed that more than 700 people were still missing from the flood.
