Osun clears ₦1bn outstanding healthcare bill

The Osun State Government has successfully cleared over ₦1 billion in inherited debt owed to healthcare providers under the Osun Health Insurance Agency (OSHI) within the past year.

This was announced at the agency’s Annual Performance Review and Strategy Retreat in Ada, Osun State, on Monday.

Dr. Razaq Akindele, the Executive Secretary of OSHIA, said the move was necessary to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services.

“We met more than ₦1 billion in debt, ranging from unpaid fees to healthcare service providers and 13 months of capitation owed to health centers,” Akindele disclosed.

“Clearing this debt was my priority, and I can confirm that we are no longer owing anyone.”

The agency, he added, has recorded steady growth under the new management and remains committed to delivering quality healthcare to enrollees.

Dr. Muyiwa Oladimeji, Chairman of the OSHIA Board, emphasised that the retreat aimed to strengthen the agency’s commitment to affordable healthcare for all under Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.

Also speaking, Osun State Head of Service, Mr. Ayanleye Aina, assured that the government would continue to support OSHIA.

Aina added that it is now mandatory for all civil servants in the state to enroll in the health insurance scheme.

“We are doing everything at the MDA level to encourage enrollment. In fact, it is compulsory for all civil servants to join the scheme,” Aina stated.
