Over 160,000 passengers benefited from Tinubu’s transport subsidy – Alake
The Minister of Solid Mineral Development and Chairman of the Presidential Committee on the Implementation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s End-of-Year Transportation Subsidy Program, Mr. Dele Alake, has disclosed that more than 160,000 people have benefited from the program, which expires on January 4, 2024.
Mr. Alake revealed this in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
According to him, the program has been a huge success, with massive numbers of passengers being recorded by both the Nigeria Railway Commission and the Association of Luxury Bus Owners of Nigeria.
He stated, “As the Chairman of the Committee on the Implementation of the End-of-Year Transportation Subsidy Program of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I am pleased to report that our program has been a tremendous success, benefiting over 160,000 passengers across the country.”
According to Alake, the Nigerian Railway Commission has ferried roughly 71,000 passengers thus far, while ALBON has transported 77,122 passengers within the same period.
In addition, the chairman of the committee stated that in the last 10 days, around 652 bus journeys successfully transported 15,766 people to and from the Oshodi terminal.
“I am proud to share that the NRC transported 71,000 passengers between December 21 and December 31, 2023, while buses under ALBON carried 77,122 passengers,” he stated.
President Tinubu, through Mr. Dele Alake, on December 20th, announced a 50% discount on road transport travel across selected routes from December 21, 2023, to January 4, 2024, as well as free train journeys across the country.
The Presidency noted that the measure is part of President Tinubu’s efforts to improve Nigerians’ well-being, particularly during the Christmas season.
Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Owerri, Ibadan, Akure, Maiduguri, Sokoto, and other significant inter-state transit hubs are among the destinations covered by the program.
