Police nab native doctor, uncover hidden weapons in Delta
Operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a 47-year-old native doctor identified as Okonji Chimeze for gunrunning.
SP Bright Edafe, Delta State Command Police Public Relations Officer, said in a signed statement in Warri on Tuesday that Chimeze of Umuehe Quarters, Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area, was nabbed on June 14, 2025, at about 0630 hours, when operatives of the squad, acting on credible intelligence, stormed his residence.
The police spokesperson affirmed that the operatives, while investigating the native doctor, executed a search warrant on his premises, during which two automatic pump-action guns and one cutlass were recovered, hidden inside the ceiling of his room.
In the meantime, the suspect and exhibits are in custody as the investigation is ongoing, Edafe said.
In another development, on June 18, 2025, at about 12:20 hours, the Eagle-Net Surveillance Team of the Delta State Command, stationed at Ughelli North LGA, intercepted a black Toyota Corolla car with registration number RSH 90 RC driven by one Telvin Richmond, aged 27, of Opete by Otokutu and one Frank Obiorah (26) of the same address, while on routine stop-and-search duty along the Otokutu Bridge, Warri.
The operatives subjected the vehicle and the suspects to a thorough search, during which a locally made cut-to-size gun, two yellow hand-bands inscribed with NBM “Neo Black Movement”, one battle axe and a wooden pistol, all concealed inside the compartment of the vehicle doors, were discovered.
The PPRO stated that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are members of the ‘Aiye Confraternity’, and bought the gun in 2024 for the sum of N87,000 from another suspect presently at large.
The suspects are presently in custody, and the investigation is ongoing, the police stated.
