Tinubu implements 60% cut in government’s spending

President Bola Tinubu, in a significant move towards cost-cutting measures, has ordered a 60% reduction in the travel expenditure of government officials within his administration.

The announcement, conveyed in a statement by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, was made during the president’s briefing with State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Ngelale outlines that the directive covers the offices of the president, vice president, first lady, ministers, and heads of agencies.

Tinubu has mandated a drastic reduction in state entourages, emphasizing that this is not a mere request but a firm directive.

The impact of this decision, the presidency says, includes limiting the number of staff accompanying the President on foreign trips to 20.

Ministers are now restricted to only four members of staff, and heads of agencies are limited to just two when traveling abroad.

In addition to the expenditure cut, Tinubu has signaled an end to the practice of traveling with large security delegations within the country.

He has stated that when visiting any state, the existing state security apparatus will be responsible for the safety of the president, vice president, and other top government officials.

He noted that this move aligns with Tinubu’s commitment to prudent financial management and marks a decisive step towards optimizing government resources.

The implementation of these measures is expected to bring about substantial savings in official travel expenses across various government entities, he stated.
