Nigeria’s National grid restored after collapse
The restoration of Nigeria’s national grid has begun after its collapse around 11:30 am on Wednesday, 10 September 2025.
In separate notices, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Port Harcourt Disco, confirmed Wednesday’s grid collapse, which led to an outage across its franchise.
Giving an update on the situation, the Nigerian National Grid wrote on X, that the grid restoration has begun.
Accordingly, it stated that the grid has restored 495 total megawatts to Abuja (150 MW), Benin (40 MW), Eko (80 MW), Enugu (40 MW), Ibadan (50 MW), Ikeja (80 MW), Kano (35 MW) and Kaduna (25 MW) discos, while others such as Port Harcourt, Jos and Yola remained at zero MW as of filing the report.
Power supply has since been restored to Dawaki, Zone 7, Dutse, around 3:00 pm on Wednesday.
Efforts to reach Ndidi Mbah, spokesperson of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), on the details of this latest grid collapse have not yielded results, as calls were not picked up or returned as of the time of filing this report.
Between January and March 2025, there were grid incidents; however, TCN said there were no collapses.
Between 2010 and 2022, the national grid collapsed 222 times. In 2024, there were 10 collapses.
